Cuzina – Greek – Nottingham (West Bridgford)
It’s been a long time since a West Bridgford review. In fact it might have been the disappointing experience I had at the then newly opened La Storia. I have heard positive things since from the locals not only about the aforementioned Italian restaurant but also some new venues like Cuzina. I say new, apparently its on its 2nd refurb after having opened in 2017! I like whatever they have done to the place, an attractive terrace sits on Radcliffe Road opposite the imposing Trent Bridge. Inside its whitewashed walls do give a Mediterranean feel, though if you’re sitting further back it’s lacking a touch in natural light. The menu is a meze affair and whilst they have some interesting Greek wines there are unfortunately none by the glass.

I had initially looked at £10 for a Greek Salad and thought their pricing was punchy but happily it turned out to be a very substantial portion and they certainly hadn’t skimped on the feta. Things they’d actually cooked were pretty good too, perhaps a little disappointing were the calarmari. A touch chewy, though not an uncommon affliction for this dish, and alongside a classic aioli would have been better than their lemon and tarragon dip. Bacon halloumi was a more simple and satisfying affair, a questionable addition of mango chutney pairing well enough with the saltiness to overlook questions of authenticity. Zucchini croquettes were a little heavy and potato dominated. I much prefer the zucchini fritters at Yamas. Perhaps the best display of cooking were the Paidakia (£12.90). The lamb cutlets were of cook quality and whilst a touch over the pink I would like had a great smokiness from the grill and paired very well with a green olive salsa.

Cuzina is an enjoyable neighbourhood restaurant. Living closer to town it’s probably not good enough to drag me away from Yamas but there was little to fault and prices seemed fair, I can see why it’s a popular spot.
