Peter Pizzeria – Nottingham
It’s become a chore keeping up with the latest spot for a slice. Over the last year I’ve reviewed the following pizza offerings in Nottingham:
And that’s without trying Pizza Punks & Suede in the city and Baba Dough in West Bridgford! With seemingly endless options Peter Pizzeria comes from success in Loughborough to try and compete. It’s a tricky site to locate but after several consultations with Google we find at the bottom of Pepper Street. The lower ground floor space is decorated with, what looks like, (vaguely) Italian bric-a-brac alongside a few other charity shop finds thrown in. It’s loud by virtue of low ceilings and hard floors and my line of sight is an open doorway into the domain of the potwasher. I try to put first impressions aside and peruse the menu. A dozen pizza’s are complemented by a few salads and a pretty basic selection of sides.

Having selected my traditional capricciosa (£12) I must say it did arrive in record time. The dough was quality and well cooked, though perhaps a touch over but easily done though when cooking at these temperatures. My biggest disappointment were the toppings, the olives and artichokes having decent representation but the quantities of ham and mushrooms felt somewhat stingy. It also managed to be a touch greasy, from exactly where I cannot tell you. Perhaps overly cheesed or a zealous slug of oil before serving, who knows.

Two years ago I might have been telling you to get down to Peter Pizzeria as one of the top options in Nottingham at the time. Times change. Whilst the food itself was both well made and good value there is very stiff competition. In chatting to people about their pizza preferences I realise there are many different favourites and there is every chance it might be yours. It just wasn’t mine.
