2025: The year I almost died
2025 gave me the wake up call of all wake up calls.
On July 4, and I was completing my scuba diving certification as a gift to myself before beginning our second round of IVF. What began as a beautiful moment 70 feet down, surrounded by the most stunning underwater scenery and several GIANT sea bass, turned into a moment that nearly ended my life.
I was drowning in life. And I nearly drowned for real.

Unfortunately, I think it had to happen this way in order for me to wake up.
Almost dying taught me that maybe success isn’t everything. As a child of Asian immigrants, this is anti everything I was taught. That mentality of always working hard and always pushing for excellence got me to where I am, and I am forever grateful for that, but at the same time…I am plagued with never knowing when to stop because I am never satisfied.
And in case you didn’t scroll all the way through, I got right back in the water. I knew how NOT to make my previous mistakes and received my open water certification 2 days after the incident! Later in the year, I went on to get my advanced diving certification and have since dove to that exact spot to RECLAIM it.
2025 changed the way I think about life… and I kinda became a mermaid?!
Here’s to figuring out how to be content in 2026.
Happy new year everyone!
