While traditional Rice Krispies treats are a beloved staple, we wanted to infuse them with a fresh, exciting twist. The result? These pinwheels that capture all the nostalgic flavors of S’mores – gooey marshmallow, rich chocolate, and crispy graham crackers – in a fun, spiralized package. It’s an unexpected delight that stands out at any gathering, promising smiles and satisfied cravings.

Why You’ll Love These S’mores Rice Krispies Treats Pinwheels

Beyond their stunning appearance, these pinwheels offer several advantages over their traditional counterparts. They are perfectly portioned, easy to handle, and provide a delightful combination of textures and flavors in every single bite. While they involve a couple of extra steps compared to basic Rice Krispies treats, the unique presentation and enhanced flavor profile make every moment of preparation truly worthwhile. Imagine the delight on your guests’ faces when they encounter these charming spirals, each one a miniature masterpiece of S’mores goodness.

The beauty of this recipe lies in its simplicity and the clever layering technique. We begin by preparing a standard Rice Krispies base, but with a crucial addition: graham cracker crumbs. This instantly elevates the cereal layer, infusing it with that quintessential S’mores flavor right from the start. A well-buttered, waxed-paper-lined jelly roll pan is your best friend here, ensuring that the treats release easily when it’s time to roll, preventing any sticky situations. Buttering the waxed paper generously creates a non-stick surface that will make the rolling process incredibly smooth and stress-free.

Crafting the Perfect S’mores Layers

The foundation of these delectable pinwheels starts with the classic combination of butter and miniature marshmallows, gently melted until smooth and creamy. The microwave makes this step incredibly quick and convenient. Once melted, the Rice Krispies cereal and finely crushed graham cracker crumbs are folded in, creating a fragrant and crisp base layer that perfectly embodies the “graham” component of S’mores. This mixture is then pressed evenly into your prepared pan, ready for the indulgent layers to come.

Now, for the “mallow” in S’mores, we double down on the marshmallow goodness! While the base itself contains melted marshmallows, we add an extra vibrant layer with marshmallow creme. This delightful spread adds an incredible boost of sweet, gooey marshmallow flavor that truly makes these pinwheels pop. Spread it generously over the Rice Krispies base using an offset spatula for an even coating. This extra layer ensures that every bite is bursting with that beloved marshmallow taste and contributes to the beautiful spiral pattern.

Next comes the glorious “chocolate” element. Instead of simply sprinkling chocolate chips, we use classic Hershey’s chocolate bars. These are placed strategically over the marshmallow creme layer and then briefly warmed in the oven until perfectly softened. This gentle warming allows the chocolate to be smoothly spread across the entire surface, creating a decadent, uninterrupted layer of rich, melty chocolate. The aroma alone will have you swooning! This melted chocolate layer, combined with the marshmallow creme, forms the irresistible heart of our S’mores pinwheels.

At this point, it’s hard to resist taking a bite! The visual appeal of the distinct layers of crispy cereal, creamy marshmallow, and glossy chocolate is simply mesmerizing. But patience is a virtue, especially when it comes to creating these perfect pinwheels.

The Art of the Roll: Creating Perfect Pinwheels

The transformation from flat layers to enchanting spirals is the most exciting part. Once your chocolate layer has slightly cooled but is still pliable, it’s time to roll! Starting from a long side, carefully peel away the waxed paper as you gently roll the entire treat, much like you would a cinnamon roll. The well-buttered waxed paper is crucial here, ensuring a clean separation and a smooth, tight spiral. After rolling, gently pinch the seam together to seal the log, ensuring it holds its shape perfectly.

To ensure these pinwheels hold their beautiful form and slice cleanly, the rolled log needs some time to chill. Place it seam-side down in the refrigerator for at least 30-45 minutes, or until the chocolate has completely set and the treat is firm. This chilling time is essential for those picture-perfect slices that reveal all the gorgeous layers within.

Once thoroughly chilled, retrieve your S’mores masterpiece from the fridge. With a sharp knife, slice the log into individual pinwheels. The result is a stunning collection of concentric circles, each one a harmonious blend of marshmallow, chocolate, and graham cracker-infused Rice Krispies. The presentation alone is enough to impress, but the taste will seal the deal.

The Ultimate Crowd-Pleaser

How fabulous are these S’mores Rice Krispies Treats Pinwheels? They are more than just a dessert; they are an experience. Whether you’re looking to delight children, impress guests at a party, or simply treat yourself to something extraordinary, these pinwheels are guaranteed to be a hit. The convenience of a no-bake recipe combined with the irresistible flavors of S’mores makes this treat a true winner. These pinwheels redefine what a Rice Krispies treat can be, elevating a simple childhood favorite into a sophisticated yet playful dessert. Ingredients

10 oz miniature marshmallows
1/4 cup Challenge butter plus more for greasing
5 cup Rice Krispies cereal
3/4 cup graham cracker crumbs
7 oz jar marshmallow creme
6 Hershey’s chocolate bars 1.55 oz each

Instructions

Preheat oven to 200 degrees Fahrenheit. This is for softening the chocolate, not baking the treats.
Line a 10×15 inch jellyroll pan with waxed paper. Ensure the waxed paper extends beyond the edges of the pan for easier handling. Generously butter the waxed paper and set aside.
In a large microwave-safe bowl, combine the miniature marshmallows and one-quarter cup of butter. Cover the bowl and heat on high for 30 seconds. Stir well, then repeat heating in 15-20 second intervals, stirring after each, until the mixture is completely melted and smooth.
Add the Rice Krispies cereal and graham cracker crumbs to the melted marshmallow mixture. Stir until the cereal and crumbs are thoroughly coated.
Evenly press the mixture into the prepared jellyroll pan. Use buttered hands or a buttered spatula to avoid sticking and achieve an even layer.
Carefully spread the entire jar of marshmallow creme over the Rice Krispies base using an offset spatula or the back of a spoon. Try to get an even layer from edge to edge.
Arrange the Hershey’s chocolate bars evenly on top of the marshmallow creme layer.
Place the pan into the preheated 200-degree oven for just two minutes. This will soften the chocolate without melting it completely. Remove from oven and use a spatula to gently spread the softened chocolate into an even layer over the marshmallow creme.
Allow the layered treat to cool in the pan for about 10 minutes to allow the chocolate to firm up slightly but remain pliable for rolling.
Starting from one of the long sides, carefully begin to roll up the entire treat, cinnamon roll style. As you roll, gently peel away the waxed paper. Aim for a tight, even roll. Once fully rolled, gently pinch the seam together to seal the log.
Place the rolled log seam-side down on a plate or cutting board. Refrigerate for 30-45 minutes, or until the chocolate is firm and the pinwheel log is completely set. This step is crucial for clean slicing.
Using a sharp, ungreased knife, slice the chilled log into individual pinwheels, approximately 3/4 to 1 inch thick. Serve immediately and enjoy!
