Hey! Danna – Japanese – Nottingham
2025 feels like the ‘year of broths’. The continued excellence of favourites like Everyday People as well as new spots in Shobu & WonderPho, amongst others. Hey! Danna replaced Hey! Chili…which became Shobu in their new site. This spot is at the top of Heathcote Street, opposite Taquero. It only houses a few tables in a narrow space that is practical rather than comfortable. Their focus is ramen, though a few rice dishes are available alongside the usual array of starters/sides. I landed on ‘red miso pork ramen’ £15.50.

Red Pork Miso Ramen – Hey! Danna – Nottingham

The bowl was vibrant and inviting, the broth accentuated by the crimson chilli oil sheen atop. Its depth and spice were both perfectly balanced, not too hot but enough to know about it. Pork was well cooked, juicy with the right amount of fat to be luxurious but not cloying. Noodles were particularly good, a nice bite and consistency. A bowl that surprised me in its quality and one actually enjoyed more than much of its more popular competition. A bigger portion than some and the quality of the meat and noodles were a cut above. That said if you want somewhere more stylish and cosy then Shobu might still take the crown, though Everyday People remains in a league of its own
